How do I prevent Outlook from freezing?

I am having an issue with Outlook 2002 and 2003; they freeze on a regular
basis, especially in the morning when opening for the first time. Not using
Word as the email editor seems to help; are there any suggestions on what the
problem could be?

You cannot have 2 versions of Outlook on the same computer.
