That's a grid, as in a table. (The following explanation is being simplified
for this response. Don't start nailing me on technicalities.) Layout,
margin, column, row, and baseline guide lines are just a way to make sure
your objects are positioned correctly.
Just as when you use Word and create a table, you need to tell the document
you want borders on your cells. Are you starting from scratch or have you
started with a template?
