How do I re-install?

A

Amy

My computer had problems and the technicians at the local
computer store restored Windows, thereby wiping out all my
files. I went to re-install my copy of Office, but its
asking me for a product key code from the CD case it came
in. I didn't think to keep the case, since I never
expected this to happen. Does anyone know how I can find
out the code again? I really do not want to have to
repurchase this. Thanks for any help anyone can offer!

You didn't expect it to happen?! You're either very naive, very stupid, or,
most likely, both.

Is this OEM - if so, you need to speak to the system manufacturer/vendor.
Microsoft do no, cannot and, indeed, will not offer any support and/or
replacement installation keys/media for OEM installations - not now, not
ever.

Office 2000 on my new Gateway, and I didn't keep the
product key either! Hope somebody can help us!

Rebecca - what part of "an OEM licence is non-transferable" are you having a
problem with?! You *CANNOT* install a Dell-supplied licence on any other
system other than the Dell it was supplied with.

Is that clear enough for you? I can draw you a diagram if you'd like...

Hi Becky,

If you have a retail copy of Office 2000 you can
transfer it to a new computer and you can contact
MS for a replacement CD key through the numbers at
http://microsoft.com/worldwide (800 360-7561 in the U.S.)

If you have an OEM edition of Office 2000 that requires
registration/activation then it's generally tied to
the first machine and not transferable.
