I have tried to remove an indent that accidently has been inserted but have
failed to find a way to actually do that.
I can add new indents, but I cannot remove old ones.

If it's just for one bullet, place the cursor in the text click on the "outdent"
icon, or press Shift + Left Tab.

Sometimes the "outdent" or "promote" icon does not show up on the
toolbar. You can go to the Tools menu and choose Customize. Click on the
Options tab and check "Show Standard and Formatting toolbars on two
rows." Then you are likely to see the correct tool.
