How do I remove the white area around a scanned image in MS Word

Using MS Office 2000 and have scanned some documents using an Epson scanner.
Anyone know how to remove the white area around the image???? I need to
remove it before reducing the image to print.........if I just reduce, the
image gets too small to see the detail.

It's called "cropping": use the crop tool on the Picture toolbar, or
right-click, select Format, and set the crop measures on the Picture tab.
(You can use negative values if you want to *add* a white margin.)
