I am trying to figure out how to save a downloaded checkbook register
template and am not sure of how to do it. I have tried once and can't find it
anywhere.
Now what do I do?

Is this template a Microsoft Access database (the subject of this
newsgroup)? or some other software? Do you recall just what you
downloaded: was it a .mdb file?

If you want to keep track of your checking account, you may want to
consider one of the powerful and affordable programs written for that
purpose, such as Quicken or Microsoft Money. The cost is miniscule
compared to the effort required to duplicate their functionality
yourself!
