How do I set a tast to start when equipment is available

I seem to have a standard project manegment problem which MS project can not
handle. I run a technical project where I am receiving equipment over time
from various suppliers. I need to be able to start at task only when this
equipment is availble. I set the resource to work and input the available
from and to dates however this has no effect unless I se the work to greater
than zero even though I have alocated for example 3 units.

This is standard problem and I can not find any way to fix it

Hi tweekzilla ,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Firstly, you shouldn't be inputting dates, other than the project start
date. Enter tasks, durations, precedence links and assign resources. Then
Project will do what is designed to do best - calculate the dates for you
such that you have a schedule that will be possible based on the data you've
entered. If you enter dates, Project will enter constraints that will
reduce the flexibility that project would otherwise give you. That being
said, constraints are useful at times, and waiting for a delivery is one of
those. So, double-click on the task, Advanced tab and change the constraint
to be Start No Earlier Than.
