How do I start creating a family recipe book?

Earle Horton

I printed a big recipe book off Usenet once, on college equipment. I asked
the computer operator if it would be OK. He said "sure" and then went off
shift. His replacement was really torqued at me, until I told him that
"Joe" had given permission. "I'll get back at Joe somehow. Here's your
cookbook."

I'd probably use Word. For the ingredients list, I'd put them into a table.
Insert a page break after the end of each recipe.

It is hard to say. There are so many ways of doing something like this
and so many different possible results that we need a lot more information
before being able to offer many suggestions.

How large a book? Are you going to include photos? exactly what is
your planed final result? Do you want a printed book or a
on-line/electronic book? If electronic are you going to use some features
like automatic scaling so the user can get a print out for 2 servings or 25
servings along with an ingredient list and calorie count?

Can you see where I am going?

You may want to consider using a cookbook programs vice a Office
application. If you Google for - cookbook programs -, you will find a
number of free and low cost options.

If you want to do recipe cards, open Word 2007. In the list of Templates
click on "More Categories" and then look through the list for "Recipes".
