How do i stop incoming mail in Outlook?

We use Outlook Express for most of our office email correspondence and are
very happy with it. It is easy enough for everyone to use.
However we have to use Outlook for some HTML based mail merges we send to
our client database. Is there any way of preventing Outlook (2000) from
receiving mail, and using it only to send mail?
We dont want incoming emails split between two programs, and wondered if
there is a solution, or will we just have to go with Outlook for everything?
