How do I stop mail downloading when Outlook 2007 opens?

How do I stop Outlook 2007 from automatically downloading emails when I open
it? I have checked "leave messages on server" box, but it still won't stop
mail from downloading. There appears to be no to stop this under Tools >
Options > Account Settings. The "Help" application is not very helpful, nor
is the knowledge base which returns "0" results. Thanks for your help.
Outlook is WAY too complex and complicated for this aging brain!

Since you have a mail poll interval defined, a mail poll occurs when
Outlook is first loaded. That is, for a mail poll of N minutes, there
is a zero minute poll, too. You will need to disable automatic mail
polling and thereafter you will have to manually do a mail poll.

Tools -> Send/Receive Settings -> Define Send/Receive Groups
(that's the menu navigation under OL2002)

Disable the automatic (scheduled) mail polling.
