How do I stop the Office Button's throbbing?

U

unspun

Thank you, Beth. I just double clicked on it, while Word was up -- and the
entire app vanished. Oops. I was able to bring it back up just fine and the
button isn't throbbing anymore. It's settled down now, for the other office
app's too.

This interface may be better for hardcore users, once they get used to it.
Maybe even for new users (it's been so long since I was a new user, it's hard
to tell). That being said, I'm still a fan of putting all but the most
frequently used functions into very quick and orderly drop-downs, in order to
save space.

Thanks again.

Glad to hear you have the problem resolved. Thanks for the follow-up. :)

Also, double-clicking the Office Button is identical to double-clicking the
control menu in other applications. As you found, it will exit the
application.

btw, I completely understand the "new user" feeling. I'm not sure if this
will help but after over 20 years of using the old interface and completely
hating the new one initially, I adapted.

I know how people react to interfaces... what they remember how they
remember why they remember
what makes things easy for them and what not....

This is not about how I use a program.. I am a geek.. I eat sleep and
breath computers..

its about the simple folk who just need to use the program fast for
everyday stuff.

They are frustrated.

I spent the last year presenting (previewing) and training Office 2007 to
various groups of people in my area along with traveling to other states for
presentations/training. Interestingly, I've witnessed the opposite reaction
to the new interface. The majority of my students and those attending the
preview presentations are eager to go back and start using the applications.

I suspect my success rate is due to including the rationale behind why the
change was made and teaching them how to actually use the new applications
efficiently using the tools provided with the application.

I can see how an instructor who thinks using an add-in is the only way to go
could easily pass their own frustration on to those they are training.

In light of your responses in this group, and I've noted you continue to
push an add-in, it certainly didn't sound like you like Office 2007. :)

Personally, I do not form my opinions based on what others say. More often
than not they don't know what they are talking about.

Interestingly, I've seen some of the biggest haters and complainers of
Office 2007 blast these newsgroups with their opinions. Months later they're
still here, no longer full of complaints, and participating in discussions.

I have no idea who you are or who you are associated with. I do think it's
odd that your answer for the Office button throbbing was to "get this
add-in" twice in this thread.

I'm returning to focusing on answering questions -- this conversation is
detracting from the main reason I'm here and that's to help out. :)

Why would you keep a completely uninformative icon in such a critical role when many users in beta missed it? Some sad imitation of Apple? "File" was meaningful and eye-catching. This icon looks decorative, especially because it is not on a level with the other immportant headings like Home, Insert, etc. I have other complaints about windows 7, for example that the "Insert" header in Excel no longer lets you "insert" rows, columns, etc., but you have to go to a remote tab under Home (do you have any respect for users who bothered to learn the last version of your software?), but the office icon is the worst, because the function it provides is crucial.

Have you tried clicking it? It's pulsing to draw attention to it since many
users in the beta missed it

If you have clicked it and it continues to pulse after restarting the
application then you can modify the Registry to make it stop. Let us know
and I'll dig up the key for you

But even if you adapt there is many people who say the ribbon is slower and

I might agree but there was a solution>>>>

MS SHOULD have provided the old menu-toolbars as an alternative too!!!

Finding basic commands such as Open, Save, Print, formatting, etc in about
an hour in Office 2007 is definitely feasible. A deep understanding of how
everything actually works both in the interface and under the hood is what
takes time.

I use the ribbon..

the apparent frustration is due to reaction of the people I have talked to
and thousands of people
that talk about this Frankenstein creation on newsgroups forums and blogs.

If there was one thing that I was doing was trying to find excuses for MS's
travesty, and convince them that this crap is better,
and that its "the future"

You cant fool the users though.. they have intuition and instinct in what is
better.

what do I care about that add-on..? Are you implying that I am somehow
associated with those guys?

Im merely telling people about it in case they want to have the old way.

I know, that's because MS is not going to change anything, and they have to
swallow this thing...
with time you can get used to anything. Humans are adaptable, but there must
be people
with free and open minds that can view things in a more holistic manner.

Do you know that trashmen after working for several months in garbage dumps
no-longer smell the stench...?

Oh yes, people can adapt to anything, even the stupid Office ribbon. That
doesn't mean its better.
