Hi guys, I know my question is pretty much lame but, is there a way to
upgrade my existing Office 2003 Basic Edition installation into the
Professional Version 2003? (with PowerPoint and etc)

Here's what I want to do, I have a PC with Basic Edition 2003 installed just
last week, but then my Professional Version 2003 just arrived and I want to
use it instead on the same PC. Can I still use the Basic Edition for another
PC eventhough it is already registered? Can I just uninstall the Basic
Edition, install the Pro Version, then register it?

Thank you very much for reading guys.

Click "upgrade eligibility" here:

You'll see a list of products that qualify you to use the Office 2003 Pro
upgrade. Office 2003 Basic is *not* a qualifying product, so you need to
purchase the full version of Office 2003 Pro, not the upgrade version.

If you purchased the full version of Office 2003 Pro and purchased it retail
(that is, it's not an OEM copy that you purchased from your computer mfg
when you ordered the computer), then you can install that on any computer
you want.

The Office 2003 Basic edition is a pre-installed version, which means
legally it's tied to the computer it came on. But read the EULA to be sure.
http://www.microsoft.com/office/eula/en.mspx You may have to contact the
computer mfg to find out where the EULA for Office 2003 Basic is if you
can't find it on your system.

And, to address your general question, if you're using an upgrade version of
a product, you generally can't use the qualifying product on a different
machine while it's being used as the qualifier for the upgrade on the
original system. But again, check the EULAs, as there are, I'm sure,
exceptions to this rule.

In a nutshell the "Basic Edition 2003" is OEM and can't be transfered to
another PC(lives on and dies with the PC it came installed on) Also it
cannot be used as the qualifing software for another version 2003
Office. So in summary the Basic is what you have on that PC, and if you
want something else you will need to buy it as a Retail not Upgrade
version. The Basic can't be used elsewhere.

So, it means I cannot use and re-install the already registered Basic Edition
to my other machine right?

Or can I still use it using activation through the telephone?

Okay. Didn't mean to upset you. It just sounded as if you didn't realize
that Basic is OEMware and isn't available retail is all.

MS Office Basic Edition (OEM only) is licensed to the original
machine and is generally not transferable.

Yes I read your post. Since the OP carefully capitalized Office 2003
Basic and Edition, I took that to mean that the OP had in fact
determined that they had "Office 2003 Basic Edition" and not "Office
2003 Standard Edition". On the other hand if they had said basic 2003
Office, your interpretation could reasonably apply.
