How do I use freeware fonts?

I downloaded some freeware fonts that are in zip format: I have no idea how
to get them into Word so that I can use them in a document.
Does anyone know how to do this?

Unzip them into the fonts folder. Or into a temp folder then go to Control
Panel > Fonts > Install new font.

Then, in Word, create a test document that uses the full character set at a
range of sizes, and see whether the font is actually usable. Most freeware
fonts are worth exactly what you pay for them. Often they have missing
glyphs, no hinting, and render very badly at small and large sizes.
