how do multiple people edit a word document?

Using Office XP regular. Want to have multiple editors for a document and

Using Office XP regular. Want to have multiple editors for a document and
retain all changes.

That is not possible. Word is (and has always been) one user at a time
per document. When you open a document, a "locking file" is created
that specifically prevents anyone else from opening the document at
the same time.
