how i open a new office-97 doc in a separate window?

when i open a new word document, it goes and open the window in the existing
word window. I want it to open in a separate window and sit in my task bar
separately. This is regarding both word as well as excel files. i am using
office-97. please help

That's how Office 97 works, and you can't change it. If you want
separate windows in the taskbar, you'll have to upgrade to Office
2000, Office XP, or Office 2003.
