How many computers can I load xp onto?

S

Susan Ramlet

Hi, Rich,

I wouldn't rely on peer support for a legal / licensing question, so I won't
offer it. The terms of the EULA differ depending on what version of Office
XP was purchased.

I don't work for Microsoft, so I'd contact them or read their documentation
to get the best answer.

If the EULA is unavailable, you can call Microsoft for free at
1-800-426-9400, Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. (Pacific time)
and ask to speak directly to a Microsoft licensing specialist. Worldwide
customers can use the Guide to Worldwide Microsoft Licensing Sites to find
contact information in their locations.

I've called them and have had good luck speaking with a real person for
free.

David Senior [MVP - Most Vulgar Person] [MVP - Mos

Hey Rich,

No she can't and she doesn't want because her MVP status has just been
renewed and so bye-bye for now until the 11th month!! Incidentally,
I have assumed the title of MVP to make me the Most Vulgar Person!!

If the Office XP is retail then the extract from EULA is as follows:

General License Grant to Install and Use Software Product. You may
install and use one copy of the Software Product on a single computer,
device, workstation, terminal, or other digital electronic or analog
device ("Device"). You may make a second copy of the Software Product
and install it on a portable Device for the exclusive use of the person
who is the primary user of the first copy of the Software Product. A
license for the Software Product may not be shared.

So it is clear that you can install it on a Desktop and a Laptop without
breaking your license agreement. May I also remind you all that in
practice you can have unlimited installations provided you continue
buying new computers on which you are entitled to install YOUR copy of
Office XP. You have a license which will entitle you to keep installing
on any new computers you buy provided the two computers are not used
simultaneously. I can't see how a student can use his/her both computers
simultaneously when he/she is away from home!!

I strongly recommend people to visit this site:

http://www.microscum.com

This site tells you how to exercise your rights under 1st, 2nd, 3rd and
4th!!!

Hope this helps.
PS: I've always known it. Too much salt is bad for your health.

Can't you give him the short answer?

I use non Microsoft products wherever possible which requires no activation.

I use Netscape 7.2 as my default browser which has everything I need for my work.

I believe in good Financial Management!! I do not believe in enriching rich jerks!
