how to add a picture editor in word

D

Dave M.

When I try to change my default picture editor the only option I get is
Microsoft Office Word. I have Paint, MS Picture Manager, GIMP, Irfan graphic
editors installed on my PC but none come up in the list. Why Not???

I have Windows XP Professional operating system and Office 2003.

Hi Dave,

Unfortunately, MS doesn't support the use of
external picture Editors through that dialog,
it didn't even allow the use of its own prior
product, MS Office Photodraw.

You'll need to use the clipboard or work on
the graphics from your disk drive when using
inserted or pasted pictures.

More things missing in XP

Bob,

Thanks for the reply. It used to work in Windows 98 and I am still getting
used to what XP will not do.

It seems strange to give the user a choice in "Options > Edit", but only to
list the program you are actually running - MS Word????? What happened to
object linking and embedding??.

Best Regards

Dave

Hi Dave,

It's a Word rather than a Windows limitation.
OLE still works through Insert=>Object, just not
as a linked application although you could probably
do something with an Add-in or COM Add-in to call
another app, it's just not a built in feature :)
