How to add new task w/o WBS # change

Hi,

I am looking for ways to stop MS Project from automatically renumbering the
tasks' WBS numbers when a new task is added?

For instance, if I add a new task between tasks 1.6 and 1.7, I want to
number the new task as 1.65. MS Project automatically numbers the new task
to 1.7 and task 1.7 is renumbered to 1.8.

Any advise would greatly appreciate.
thanx

omp,
The WBS field is dual use, that is, Project will automatically populate
it but the user can overwrite the value manually. You basically have two
choices. One, manually change the WBS value to your liking or two, use a
spare text field (e.g. Task Text1) and create your own sequence.

With the first option, Project will still automatically assign a value
to new tasks. With the second option, the WBS value for new tasks will
be blank until you fill it in.
