How to build a MS Project plan from excel spreadsheet?

Sara

Is there a template or macro that will let me build a Project plan from an
excel spreadsheet?

In your spreadsheet, make sure you have column headings to declare your
intensions.
Start Project.
File/Open.... select the file type to .xls (Excel)
Browse to your spreadsheet and click OK.
A wizard will launch. You will have to map from the columns in your
spreadsheet to field names in Project. There is a place to select the sheet
you wish to import data from along with mapping.

Hi Sara
Just for your information there is inbuilt template available in Excel 2003
onwards.
File-New-On my computer- Spreadsheet Solutions- Microsoft Project Task List
import template.

Using this template create your project plan. This will be useful to map the
column heading later.

Hope this helps

Thanks

Jim,

I tried this, but the duration window is giving me a hard time. I first had
to place the word "days" after my number for it to import. And once i did
that, the numbers came into project incorrectly. The duration that is in the
excel file would say 5 days, the number in the preview would show 5 days, and
the number that would import would be 13 days. I don't understand what I am
missing, I would appreciate any advice you may have.

thank you,

Brendan

template so I can download it?
