"summary progress" on summary tasks on tracking gant

If by "summary progress" you mean "% complete", or "% work complete"
(which the latter 2 are both standard Project fields), then show those
fields on the Gantt Chart View (Menu: Insert, Column and pick these two
fields). Project will compute these fields for you, so there is no need
for you to compute them. You can learn how these fields are computed by
putting the cursor on the column header, and then click on the "help"
link that appears.

By default, the Tracking Gantt view displays "% complete".
