How to check mail upon starting Outlook

Gary B.

Hi there,
How can I set Outlook XP to check for mail as soon as I start it and thereafter every 5 minutes.
Thanks
Gary

You need to set this up manually. Why I don't know but that's the way it is in Outlook versions >= XP.

Go to Outlook | Tools | Send\Receive | Send\Receive Settings... | Define Send\Receive Groups... | Under Settings for group xxx check the checkbox for Schedule an automatic send/receive every xx minutes. Also make sure the checkbox above this is checked. You really don't need to do anything else. The bottom one works even when you are offline for sending. Just not receiving but then I take it we are offline for just that reason.

In Tools | Send/Receive Settings | Define Send/Receive Groups, set the
interval for checking for new mail -- this controls both the automatic check
and whether or not Outlook checks for new mail on startup.
