How to define a default view in Word 2003

Is there a way to set the default view to Print Layout instead of Normal?
I find myself working in the print view more often than not, and would like
to define it to be the default view when opening documents.

Thanks,

David...

I am not sure of what you are asking. When you open Word, the printer
driver defaults to what ever you have selected as you normal configuration
in Windows Printers. My printer driver has several print quality choices.
One of those chooses is normal. The printer driver also has a default choice
of layout between portrait or landscape.

In any case, what ever you choose as you configuration in Windows Printers
for default printer will be what Word selects as the default printer
configuration.

Hi David,
Views are document specific. So if you save a document in a Normal view.
This document will open in Normal every time. if you open it change
something in the document and then change the view to Print Layout, then
close the doc and reopen it, it will now be in Print Layout view.
Now, for Word when you start it with out opening an existing Doc, therefore
a new document, it will remember the last setting you had then you opened
it last, Therefore If I open Word and I have normal set to the default when
I started it, it will start with that every time, but if I change it to
Print Layout view and close Word and restart it, it will start with Print
Layout view as the default.
Now, with Word 2003 there is a new View called Reading Layout, this can be
set to be the default view used when opening existing documents to do this
you can do this via Tools \Options \ General 'Allow starting in Reading
Layout'.
I hope this helps.

Hello Mickey,

I do not believe that was the intent of the original question as I am
suffering with the same problem. What I believe David was asking (and what I
am looking for) is how to make Word 2003, when starting a new document, come
up in the "Print Layout" view by default. It currently (for me) starts up in
"Web Layout" view. I have tried saving documents in print layout and when I
start a new document it reverts back to web layout. I have also tried opening
Normal.dot and saving it after switching it to print layout and that also did
not work.

Your reply stated that if one werre to open a document in print layout
view then, when a new document is opened, it would default to print layout
view. As stated above I have tried this without success. Perhaps there is
something corrupted with my (and David's) installation. In my case this is a
new machine and I only installed office about three weeks ago.

Regards,

Michael
