how to fill sharepoint column with infopath

We are using sharepoint in our intranet. The past months with document
libraries with maps.
Now we are going to use columns instead of maps and use filters more often.
The all our infopath forms have to carry several column values.
For example a change form has to show his change id and location.

We are using infopath 2003.

Hello

You have to Open the forms and save back to the form library to get the
values shown in sharepoint columns

I don't know if this it the "right" way, but I've been using the "Property
Promotion" Category in the Form Options.

Hello
I am assuming you are already doing Property promotion in sharepoint

Thanks for the replies but the forms should be saved in a document library
not a form library.
