How to have project plan update after changing a task date

R

rbenash

Did a few searches but wasn't able to get an answer. Apologize in advance if
this is rudimentary/stupid question.

Problem:

I have an MPP that someone else built that they are asking me to update. I
need to change a few task dates and was able to do that. The issue is that
tasks subseqent to or associated with the change to not automatically update.
Simplest example is that the end date of the project doesn't reflect the push
in time after changing the actual date for a task.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Hi rbenash ,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Check Tools/Options.../Calculation tab that Calculation is set to Automatic.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Thanks Glen - did the check, that doesn't seem to be the problem. I verified
that Calculation is set to automatic.

OK Ray, let's look elsewhere. My next suspect is constraints. You, or
your predecessor should not type in dates - that's Project's job. You
should enter Durations and Precedence links, whence Project will do what
it's designed to do - calculate the dates for you. So, select all tasks and
Tools/Task Information/Advanced tab and change the Constraint Type to As
Soon As Possible. Your end date should then be calculated for you and
you'll have to work from there. If you've got resources assigned, you'll
need to apply levelling as well.

Hi,

Probably the tasks are marked 100% complete: Project does not change
history, only plans.
