How to import an existing Word document into PowerPoint

I tried simply going into PowerPoint and opening the existing Word document,
hoping it would convert into slides. It tried, but very unsuccessfully.
Gave me a 250 page presentation with every sentence pasted in as the "title"
of each slide. Copy/paste is very time consuming, this is a 36 page Word
document. Any other ideas for easily turning this Word document into a slide
presentation?

PowerPoint creates slides based on the style that is assigned to the text in
Word. So, head1 becomes a slide and slide title and head2, 3, 4, 5, and 6
become levels of bullets. Everything else gets ignored I think.
