How to lower a level of heading in a word doc

Jinglun

I need to merge 2 word documents into one and find that one of the
document heading level should be lowered. Instead of change the
headings one by one manually, is there any function helping me to
change the whole document heading levels? Thanks.

It depends on which level it is and whether there are any unused levels
above it.

First, I'm not sure what you mean by "lowered". I typically would mean that
a level 2 (for example) would go to level 3, since it's going lower in
importance.

However...

Suppose that my Document looks like this:

Heading 2
Heading 3
Heading 3
Heading 2
Heading 3

I would add a Heading 1 at the beginning, then collapse to show just heading
1, and then demote that level to a level 2. All of the other heading levels
under it would also be lowered.

If your document already contains Heading 1 levels, collaps to show just the
Heading 1s, and demote each one to a level 2 (for example).

If, by lowered, you mean a level 2 becomes a level 1, then assuming that
level 1 does not already exist, then collapse to show just level 2, and
promote each level 2 to level 1.
