How to mail merging with MSword 2003?

I need your help on mail merging with MSword 2003.

I have selected the help icon.

The instructions are not clear enough for me to complete the procedures.

I have done some mail merging in 2000 w/MSword and it was more simple and
quick.

I'm working on a temparary assignment that is requiring mail merging.

Either I'm stressing myself for not understanding or something is missing.

I don't know, but I need to do this successfully without any complaining
from the manager.

Can someone please, walk me through with the most simple way of completing
this procedure without destroying the data?

I don't have anyone else to ask. When I do, nobody seems to know how to do
anything.

Please help.
