how to make crossword puzzle words appear one by one in a pre-mad.

I am not able to make a crossword puzzle in powerpoint to use for educational
purposes. I basically want to have a crossword grid up on a slide, and then
one by one, have the words appear. I cannot even paste a premade grid on to a
slide.
