how to merge two powerpoint files

sI am using PP 2000, and I am looking for instruction to merge two pp files
into one presentation without losing slides from either file. Is there a way
to do this? I could not find it within help in PP or online via Microsoft

The normal way is to use the "Insert", "Slides from file" method. However,
since you are using version 2000 you cannot have two different slide designs
in the same file and the one are inserting into will be the design used. If
you have versions 2002 or 2003 you can click the "Keep source formatting"
checkbox on that same dialog box you will see when trying this method.

Save PPT 1 as a PPS.
In PPT 2 insert new slide where you want PPT 1 to start
In new slide, Click Insert > Object
Select Create from Files then browse to your new PPS file.
Click OK

Why not just open both files in PPT. Go to the file you want to be second.
Go to the Slide Sorter View. Hightlight them all and choose Copy. Go to
the first file, go to Slide Sorter View, put your cursor after the last
slide there and then choose Paste. That will paste all lhe slides in #2 PPT
following the slides of #1 PPT. That effectively merges the two files. I
have used this method to add slides from one PPT file into another. It
would work just as well to add all the files of one PPT file to another.

good idea. For some reason I interpreted the writer to want to keep the
format of each presentation...
