How to put a delay in the middle of everything

Hi,

I would like to ask how to insert a delay in the middle of the entire project.

I have found that necessary resources to move forward are working in a
different project and until they finish that project they will come back to
this one.

How do I insert (whack) a delay in the entire project starting Friday,
8/14/09?

First, has the project team decided what tasks will not get worked on?
How long the delay will be? How the project will be restarted? Once
you know that, then just put that logic into the plan.

Hi Rob,
Yes, I know which tasks they will not work on -- because they haven't
started yet.
The delay is potentially ~ 1 month (+/- 10 days).
I wanted to know if one can insert a project delay in the middle of it all.
For example, this Friday they stop work. So whatever they were working on
and whatever hasn't started is going to be delayed. What's the best way to
approach this scenario?

Apply a task calendar for those tasks falling in that period.

If the plan is sufficiently simple, simply split tasks falling in the
period.

If all work on the program must be suspended, try changing those dates to
"Non Working Time" in the project calendar.

Since you are getting multiple opinions on how to handle this issue, allow
me to add one more option:

1. In the project in question, click Tools - Tracking - Update Project.
2. Select the "Reschedule uncompleted work to start after" option and enter
a date that is ONE DAY before the date you believe the project will resume.
3. Select the "Entire Project" option and click the OK button.

Microsoft Project will set a Start No Earlier Than constraint (SNET) on all
unstarted tasks, and will create splits in all in-progress tasks. Just one
more thought. Hope this helps.

So, are you saying that Jim Aksel and I won the contest for the best

Hi jp,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

This will run into trouble if you want to start earlier than the new date.
I would just save the project away, re-open it when you have the new date
and then, as Dale said, reschedule.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)
