How to re-map keyboard shortcuts?

E

Eric Greene

Somehow a couple of keyboard shortcuts that I use often got changed in my
Word XP configuration. I want to change those back to what they were.
(Ctrl-Home to go to the beginning of a document, and just the Home key to go
to the beginning of a line.)

I can't find where to tell Word to use my key mappings.

Yes, I've gone to Tools-Customize-Options Tab-Keyboard and I cannot find
where movement of insertion point commands are located. Any ideas?

In the customize keyboard dialog select All Commands as you category and
then the commands you are looking for are:

StartofLine
StartofDocument

Great! Thanks very much.

Unfortunately, even though I type in "Home" for StartofLine, and "Ctrl+Home"
for StartofDocument, it still doesn't work. When I return to working on my
document, pressing my "Home" key does nothing at all (the cursor doesn't
move). Also, when I press Ctrl+Home, I get the GoTo dialogue box instead of
going to the start of the document.

Is there some setting somewhere that I changed which is causing this
problem?

Check under Tools => Options => General

If either of the "Word Perfect" options are checked uncheck them. Not sure,
but this sounds like the kind of mischief they cause.

Thanks again. That was exactly the cause of my problems.

"Help for WordPerfect users" had been checked. It is now unchecked and I am
free to use Home and Ctrl-Home all afternoon with reckless abandon.
