Version: 2004 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) Processor: Intel I created a Word file on my Macbook and when I tried to open the file on my work PC which is a Windows 2000 PC with Word for Windows 2000, I cant open the file. Is there a way I can save this file on my Macbook to allow it to be opened on the Windows computer please?

Thank you

You would be much more likely to get a specific response if you'd describe
how the file is "getting to" the PC, exactly what happens when you try to
open it, & a general indication of what the file contains other than plain
text. Without details the only general suggestions are fairly routine:

1- Make sure you're saving the file in the Word 97-2004 (.doc) format,
2- Include the filename extension when saving the file,
3- Zip/Stuff the file before emailing or copying to other media,
4- Don't try to Save to or Open the file from a USB Stick - always work on
the system's HD, copy to the stick, then copy from the stick to the other
system's HD.

Dear Bob

Thank you for the help. But further to your 'getting to' question: I put the file on my USB stick; its a document file with minutes of a meeting; I did try to open the file on the Windows 2000 computer directly from the USB Stick. When I tried to open it on Windows PC, it something about not having that version and that the Windows install disc should be loaded (which I dont have) so that it can be updated.

I hope this covers everthing. Please let me know if you need more info.

Thank you

That's diagnostic: you've saved it as .docx, and without the Windows install
disk, you can't add it to Word 2000. You will have to work in the old .doc
format.

You need to follow the instructions Bob gave you exactly, then it will work.

Cheers

and copy it to you computer from USB stick. USB sticks are solely for the purpose of transfering files from one place to another. Copy to the stick the copy from stick to you computers desktop (or whatever windows calls it), first before attempting to open.
