How to rename the server hosting MOSS and Project Server 2007

Kevin

I'm being forced to rename my server to meet corporate standards. I
attempted to rename the server and login and execute the SharePoint Central
Administration which immediately chocked (understandably). I ran the
SharePoint Products and Technology Config Wizard but that did not seem to
work.

Is there a way to rename the server without reinstalling project server? If
not, can I start from my MOSS restore point, backup my Project Server
Databases, install Project Server and restore the databases?

Thanks.

System Info:
DEV-SQL server running SQL Server 2005 SP2
DEV-PRJ07 server running Project 2007SP1 + MOSS 2007SP1 + Server 2008

Kevin ,

There is a way to do this. Its a Bit of a process. You have to make a
full sharepoint farm backup.
Uninstall MOSS. Rename the Windows Server. Reboot. Install MOSS. DO
NOT CREATE ANYTHING IN MOSS.
Operations > Services on server. Start all the neccesary services.
Operations > Restore Backup. Select the Entire FARM.
ON teh NEXT page that appears make sure that the server name is
correct EVERYWARE, and that the accounts used are correct.

Viola !!

Hope This helps

Andre -
Thank you for the response. Sounds like I do not have to uninstall project
but just MOSS. Do I have to do any kind of Alternate Access Mappings for
project after the fact or will all my URLs just fix themselves when I
re-install MOSS?

Also, as an extra precaution, I've read about a cmd line tool or third party
tool that can export Project Server 2007 config settings. I cannot find my
way back to this article but thought I would ask. Do you know of what I
refer to?

Thanks.

Yes i know what you are referring to , The Project Playbooks. Have a
look here: http://blogs.msdn.com/project/archive/2008/01/25/project-2007-project-resource-kit.aspx
Just be warned that i have found some issues with the playbooks. B ut
also remember by doing a farm backup EVERYTHING including the content
and Config are backed up.
Alternate Access mappings is only if there is a need for you to
connect to the server with an alternative URL, but will not change the
actual server name.
Have a look here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263208.aspx
