How to renumber W.B.S. codes

I have MS Project 2003 Professional. There is an option on the Project menu
for 'W.B.S.' 'Renumber', but the 'Renumber' function is not highlighted and
won't let me select it. According to online help you should be able to
select your tasks by name (or entire project) and renumber the W.B.S. codes
but I cannot get it to work. How can you do this?

The WBS Renumber option is only available if you have defined a "mask" for
your WBS codes (Project-WBS-Define Code). Without a mask you can enter
anything into the WBS field and it will stay that way until you reset it or
change it to something else. Without a mask, backspace over a single WBS
code if you want to reset that particular code or to reset all of the WBS
codes, add the WBS field as a column, select the column and choose
Edit-Clear-All. This will reset the WBS field to match the indenting you
have done in your project.

Hope this helps.

Hey thanks Jim!

That is very easy but I never would have figured it out.
