How to switch to Document Map using keyboard?

I would like to be able to switch back and forth between the Document Map and
the document using the keyboard rather than the mouse, either by a toggling
command or by two separate commands. Is there a built-in Word command that I
can assign to a key combination? Or can I write a macro to achieve this?

Thanks.

I now find that it is not actually possible to switch focus to the Document
Map even using the mouse. The focus remains on the document itself, so
independent navigation of the Document Map is not available.

I don't find that here (Word 2003) using the mouse. I don't know of any
keyboard shortcut that would switch focus to the DM.

I'm using Word 2007. When I use the mouse to click on an item in the Doc Map,
the cursor moves to the corresponding heading in the document. When I use the
up or down keys, the cursor moves as you would expect within the document.
It's not possible to make the down-key move the highlight in the Doc Map down
by one line. It will only go there if you've reached it in the ordinary way
within the document.

I had originally expected that the behavior of the Doc Map and the document
would be the same as that of Windows Explorer, in which you can switch focus
between the left-hand pane showing the folder list and the right-hand pane
showing the contents of the currently selected folder. But it ain't so,
apparently.

I see what you're saying. Obviously, Word's designers did not cater for your
expectations.
