Hyperlink causing cell size to change

J

John Williams

I have a template that purchased and it has basic image buttons on it, but
the buttons are just images right now and have no hyperlink. When I right
click on each button and add a hyperlink it causes the button to change in
size and shifts my table and gets the other graphics out of alignment.

Why does adding a hyperlink to an image change its size and how can I stop
it from doing that?

T

Thomas A. Rowe

How are you actually adding the hyperlink to the button, as the button/image should never change
when you apply a hyperlink.

Well, I've tried 'right clicking' on the button/image and then selecting
'Hyperlink'. I've tried going to the menu and doing the same thing. And for
some reason it must be changing the size, because it's shifting the
button/image and causing the other graphics to move...actually I guess it's
moving the table...those button/images are in a table...everything is.

Is this on a public server so you can post a link and someone can look at
it??

Without seeing it... It would be hard to tell...
BUT
What you might be seeing is the blue border around the image when you mouse
over it.(Hover state) The added border will make the image a few px larger
and you might see movement.
You could use a little CSS to find out if that is what's happening

Just before the </head> tag put

<style>
a {
text-decoration: none;
}
</style>

and see if that solves the problem...

If it does, you will know where the problem is a least...

Uhhh... Right

bob
| Actually, the CSS you would use would be this -
|
| a img { border:none}

Actually no...it's just on my pc right now that I'm working on it with. I'm
not uploading the new design until I get it finished and with this problem, I
don't know when that will be.

J

John Williams

Ok, maybe this can help some. Here's 3 links to my page. html-1 shows the
template and the buttons in the top left with no hyperlinks. html-2 shows
the same with just 1 hyperlink added to contact us and html-3 shows the same
as html-2 with the layout table. You can clearly see that by adding the
hyperlink 'Contact Us' is made a larger image. pushing the whole table or
cell to the right.

I can see that html-3 shows the entire page is pushed over to the
right, but can see no difference in the buttons or their position in
the page.

Design view in FrontPage is NOT WYSIWYG, often far from it. Have
you checked in a browser?
Can you post the code, or better provide a link to the page?
Sometimes pictures mask a thousand words.

J

John Williams

I don't have the page published. If we can't get it figured out...I may have
to at least stick the index page up and do a link to it.

I have checked the buttons after adding the hyperlink in Frontpage by
clicking the preview and it is showing the button/image shifted.

Also, opening it in a browser shows them shifted also.

Here is the code:

Stupid me...click on Picture Properties and finally LOOKED and saw 'Border
Thickness' was set to '2'. Set it to 0 and problem fixed.

Goosh...talk about oversite :)

Sorry to be a pain...lol!

In HTML-2 it looks like that is a blue border around the image.

In code view just before the </head> save it and then preview in a browser.

<style>
a img { border:none}
</style>

See if that stops it..?
Maybe you can name the page test.htm and upload it so we could see the code
if that above doesn't work.

After seeing the code that should work...
Using the CSS to stop the boarder...

<style>
a img { border:none;}
</style>
</head>

inserting it just before the closing head tag..
Copy paste this one I forgot the semi-colon after the none in the other
post... Or just put it in yourself 8)
