hyperlinks change my html codes to %5e how do I stop it?

%

%5e fed up!

In Word....when I select Hyperlink; Link to Existing File or Web page: add my
address (which comes from an intranet page) it coverts some of the characters
in the address to %5e. Example: part of the destination address (link) is a
follows: +Activity=starts+with^^X^0^

When I click ok and go back in to edit the hyperlink the address (link) is
converted to
..+Activity=starts+with%5e%5eX%5e0%5e

and the hyperlink doesn't take me to the link.

Why does this happen and how can I fix it?
