Hyperlinks in Word

My hyperlinks were working normally in Word (I have Office 2003) until
recently. Now, instead of being able to type in www.microsoft.com and having
it change to a blue, clickable hyperlink, it now looks like this: {HYPERLINK
"http://www.microsoft.com" }. The link is no longer clickable. I have
intried the Insert Hyperllink functin, and I type in the text and target, but
it still turns it into {HYPERLINK "http://www.microsoft.com" }, and the link
is not clickable. I have used styles to change the text to a hyperlink. It
looks correct, but it is not clickable, even when used with the CTRL click
function. I don't know why this is suddenly happening, and I don't know how
to change it back. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You're seeing the actual field code rather than the result of the clickable
hyperlink field. To toggle of the view of the field codes, press Alt+F9.

Hyperlinks are fields and fields can be in two modes: they can show the
result, i.e. the content that will print, or they can show the code behind.
Alt+F9 toggles field codes on and off.

You can toggle the field codes of a single field by pressing Shift+F9 while
the selection is in the field.
