I added a new hard drive and lost my old office 98.

I lost all of my old files and try to use my system recovery disk and I lost
my office 98. I have disc for Office 2000 and Office XP, but it will not let
me install these without a previous version on my computer. What do I do? I
have a confirmation # with my Office 2000.

Totally confused.

You probably didn't have Office 98, because that was a Mac version.
Maybe you had Office 95 or Office 97. In any case, if you no longer own
the qualifying product that made you eligible to use the upgrade
versions of Office 2000 and Office XP, then you no longer own a license
to use the upgrade versions. You will need to purchase a full version
of Office.
