I notice I cannot see any windows metafile graphics on the PowerPoint that
people send me. All I see is an X but on my other computer with XP it is OK.
I just bought this laptop with Vista - which unfortunately is giving me more
headaches.

Tell whoever is sending you the files to turn off "allow fast saves" in
their options in powerpoint.

Sounds like you don't have write access to the "Temporary Internet Files"
folder (or it even doesn't exist). Open the Windows registry, go to
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders" and check the "Cache" value. You might want to set it to
something like "%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files".

(I don't know Vista. But this registry key might not have changed.)
