I can't uninstall office 2000 from windows xp pro

I found that word wouldn't open, everything else would. I tried to
uninstall, reinstall, via both setup and add/remove programs.. it just
hangs.. any suggestions?

Check for computer viruse, and check to ensure that your anti-virus
product is not interferring with Word, e.g. ensure it not running when
you install Word, and configure it to not work *with* Word in anyway.

Check also that you don't have failed hardware (memory?) or something.

My hunch it has nothing to do in particular with Word.
