I give up - advice please

All I want to do at this point in my life is to get Word
to stop putting in an auto format... I am typing a long
document with questions and answers which I type in as W.
or A. and everytime I put in a Q. and type the questions,
then hit enter it gives me an R....and I cannot get rid of
this to save my life... I've turned off every auto
function I can think of but still the R. haunts me... as
long as I stay in the same paragraph with the Q. I'm okaya
but then I hit enter and there is the evil R.

Someone please make it stop....

Hi Gsmartt,
[..]
I am typing a long document with questions and answers which I type

[you mean Q. and A., right ...? :)]

and everytime I put in a Q. and type the questions, then hit enter it
gives me an R....

See Suzanne's answer; for such a task, it seems best to define two
styles, both "bulleted" with a character (Q., and A., respectively), and
define in each style that it is followed by the other.
