I have a problem launching Outlook

I have MSOffice Professional installed on my laptop, and I am running XP.
Everything works fine except Outlook (Outlook Express is functional, as
well). Every time I try to launch Outlook, I get a series of error
messages/windows/prompts. The core mesage sems to be: "Error in registry
for extension 'Exchange Extensions'. The syntax or format of the registry is
incorrect. Check the registry settings and compare the the registry for this
extension to other extensions in the registry".

I am an experienced Windows user, but I have no clue how to solve this problem

With Outlook closed, try deleting the file
%AppData%\Microsoft\Outlook\extend.dat and restarting Outlook.

By the way, what version of Outlook? I had this problem for a while when I
updated from OL 2000 to 2003. I think a new profile cured it.
