i have forgotten my administrator password, how do i overide it?

These posts always make me wonder if they "forgot" it or if they are trying
to break into someone's computer.

To the OP: I'm not saying that's what *you* are doing. I'm just saying that
I am the suspicious type.

I see posts like that often. Passwords "forgotten", can't access file that
is critical, etc. I have to admit it - I won't answer them just in case they
are doing something they shouldn't be doing.

To share my password experience, years ago I offered to crack a
password protected Word document for a poster claiming it was an
important business document and he'd forgotten the password.

Well...in order to test the password you need to open the document.
From what I could ascertain the document was a diary that belonged to
either his wife or girlfriend and yep - she was cheating on him. I
wasn't sure what do - what a quandary! I figured the best choice would
have been to not make the offer in the first place and not get in the
middle so I ended up telling him I was unable to crack it. Lesson
learned and I've never that mistake again. <grin>
