I like to see the progress of a new download on the screen

When I open a document I like to see the dotted line indicating the progress
of this command while it is downloading. Previously it would run across the
bottom of my screen, but I don't see it anymore while I am waiting for a
document to open

And you would be opening this document in what program and version? And
when did it change?
