I lost a file that I did not save

i saved it on a floppy but not on the computer i have.the floppy was a dud
and now i can't find the file anymore

Never save/read to/from any removable media.
Save to HD and copy from there and v/v. (Copy to HD and read(open) from the HD.
The disk may not have been a "dud" before, but it is now.
