If OEM, you need to contact your OEM.

I see that Don has answered your question, now think very hard about
insurance. A homeowner's policy would have covered the loss and you
don't need to be a homeowner to insure your stuff, there are renters
policies available and they're not terribly expensive.

Shop around, call an agent, investigate prices and see if maybe the
insurance would be cheaper than replacing your stuff....

If its relevent, in the UK home ownrs insurance will rarely cover students
away from home, particularly PC's. Laptops are allmost impossible to insure,
except at time of purchase when some retailers offer an insurance option. It
is however full of exclusions.

If you still have the S/W running you can get the Product Key using any of a
number of utilities(try Google), then all you need to do is to prevail on a
fellow student to burn you a copy of his CDs. An Office Student Key will
ONLY WORK with Office Student CDs, but there is nothing on any MS CD that
ties it to a specific Product Key.

Actually, what that software, such as Belarc and other registry
pulling applets, will give you is your registration key...NOT the key
that allows you to install the software again.

Granted, that number can help you provde you are legit and help to get
help through MS...but it will not give you the installation key. At
least...I've yet to see any app that can do that since the key is not
entered into the computer.

Belarc returns both the Product ID and the Product Key for Office.
This is the key that I typed in to install Office. One caveat,
however. If you have an OEM installed version of Office (or Windows),
the key that it returns is the mass-install key that the OEM uses, not
the key that is on the sticker on the back of your PC. This OEM key
will not work for reinstalling Windows or Office. Belarc does return
the valid retail license key or, after you've had to do a manual
reinstall of the OEM software (assuming they gave you install disks
instead of image recovery disks) it will show you the key that you
actually used to reinstall.

You're right!

I've been using it for years and it never provided that information
previously up to about 1 yr ago when I last used it...but I see the
new version I just downloaded now DOES provide the additional info.

Thanks for correcting me! That's cool to know.
