I turned off Drawing Canvas in Tools/Options, but it's still ther.

I turned off the Drawing Canvas, but when I went back to my page in Word, it
was still there. How do I get rid of it?

Disabling the option just keeps it from happening again. When you've already
got one, you have to delete it.
