IconCache.db

What the heck is an IconCache? It shows up in local settings/application
data every time I start the computer--Windows XP with Office 2000. I have
been deleting it--also thumbs.db created when I copy files to CD Burning--and
I am wondering If I am doing the right thing.

It's the IconCache for the operating system. And will be recreated if
you delete it, as you have discovered.

I think what I want to know is what exactly does it do? It's one of those
"Why is that there" questions--and is a "thumbs.db" a different type? I only
get those when I burn a CD.

the thumbs.db file is unneeded anywhere. And you can turn the creation
of it off in Folder options. The Iconcache file is a system file and IS
required by the system on the hard drive. You don't need either on the
CD copy.

Do you turn the thumbs.db file off in Control Panel? I didn't think I had
this problem until I removed Word Perfect9.

Folder Options, View, Do not cache thumbnails.

I turned it off--and it still puts thumbs.db in files moved to CD burning.
But only there--so I guess I'll settle. Thanks.

Haven't done that--haven't found "apply to all folders". But I will. Thanks.
