IIS6 Nortbots error

J

Joe Blizzard

I'm trying to move a web site from a Win2K server to a Win2K3 server. I use
FP2K to publish to both servers.

Search forms that work on the the 2K server don't work on the 2K3 one and
give me a 404 error with "server/web/_derived/nortbots.htm" not found.

Everything I've found so far refers to an issue that was resolved many
releases of FP extensions ago. Any ideas?

Chances are, when you say "move" you don't mean "publish." You need to
publish the site, not copy the files, or, as you have seen, the server
extensions don't work correctly.

Actually, when I said move, I meant I was accomplishing the move by
publishing the web to the new server via frontpage. That's why I went on to
say:

It was a nice thought, and I wish it had been that simple.

What has me baffled is that I have one subweb containing a database
connection with some search and edit forms that works fine on the new
server. I have another database that's returning a different error that I
haven't looked into yet. And I have several simple search forms that are
giving me the nortbots error. So the server extensions appear to be working,
but only for some subwebs and not for others. And I've yet to find what's
different between the ones that work and those that don't.

Windows 2003 server will not use the standard WAIS for the search feature.
It only uses the Index Server. You must set up a catalog for the site.

I'm not sure I understand ... no wait, I'm absolutely certain I don't
understand what you're saying. I also don't have the server in front of me
at the moment to try to figure out what you're trying to tell me. The index
service is running on my new server and all my web folders have "index this"
enabled like on the old one. I don't think I'm getting that far, though. I
think maybe when I publish the web, something's going wrong in the
publishing process, like it's not detecting the extensions or something and
then it treats it like a disk based web, hence the nortbots thing. But not
in every case as I mentioned in my reply to Kevin Spencer.

I have a similar issue, Index server setup and running fine(can query)

But when i search from the FP web I get the following error:

FrontPage Run-Time Component Page
You have submitted a form or followed a link to a page that requires a web
server and the FrontPage Server Extensions to function properly.

This form or other FrontPage component will work correctly if you publish
this web to a web server that has the FrontPage Server Extensions installed.

Click the <Back> arrow to return to the previous page.

Other bots like the counter don't seem to be working either.

Everything seems to be setup right. Web server extensions allow both FP
extensions and Index service, able to publish with FP...

Almost every instance (the exceptions involve a known bug with FP98) of
Nortbots indicates that the site was moved using FTP or Windows Explorer.
If you published with FP then it indicates the server extensions are not
installed, or configured for your virtual server, or they are corrupted.
(FP would use FTP to publish in these cases.)

For Index Service, have you allowed Index Service on IIS6.0?
In the IIS MMC, there is a Web Service Extensions folder in which services
such as FPextensions, Index Service, ASP are turned on - the default is off.
This is separate from the virtual server set up sheets.
